We were just like you

When we first started our blog back in 2015, we made so many mistakes.

We thought we understood Google Analytics, but all we were really doing was checking our “vanity metrics” to make us feel good. We didn’t actually obtain any useful information from our data, so growing our blog was a slow grind.

But as small business owners, what we are good at is continual learning.

Over the years we have honed our skills in analysing our blog’s important data (not just the vanity metrics) and have transformed our blog from a hobby into a full time income – for both of us.

Alongside studying everything Keyword Research, we threw ourselves into Google Analytics to learn as many insights as possible in order to grow our food blog traffic.

We wanted to know: Who’s on our site? What are they loving (and what are they avoiding?). How do we know if a post is performing well, if it’s maxed out or needs improvement?

Our blog now reaches of over 6 million readers a year. That’s a lot of stats to sort through!

And it’s all thanks to understanding our stats. If we can do it, so can you!

Going through this book really helped me understand my data and numbers. I was leaving so much money on the table with content that I had already created because I didn’t know/understand my analytics properly. It helped me really drill down and audit the content that I already have and create a really strong content plan moving forward. As a bundle with Eat Your Words, this really is an invaluable resource.

Wow, I cannot imagine it being any more useful!

I have highlighted something on nearly every page of this book. It’s that good. There is so much valuable information that I had no idea was available in UA and GA4, such as custom reports, backing up and saving reports, forecasting income, filters and so much more.

This book teaches Food Bloggers like me how to find and follow our data to grow our blogs. And it’s easy to understand. Exactly what I needed. Thank you, Sarah and Laura for sharing your knowledge!

You will receive this eBook as a digital download in a PDF format. It contains 140 pages of helpful information and useful screenshots and is viewable on any device. We do recommend viewing the eBook on larger screens so you can easily view the content and zoom in on some screenshots. You are also welcome to print this PDF if you would like to keep a paper copy on hand – it’s set to standard A4 paper size.

Yes, in fact, there’s an overwhelming amount of free advice and guides on the internet. But it’s almost never tailored specifically for you as a food blogger. Understanding what your data actually means, finding the equivalent data from Universal Analytics in the new GA4, and learning how to customise reports is a complicated process. We break all of this down into an easy to read, step by step guide in this eBook.

Our 10 custom GA4 Explore reports in particular have been created exclusively by us to replicate well loved UA reports, and to look at particular dimensions for food blogs.

As food bloggers ourselves – we hear you! We’ve structured this eBook into logical chapters with plenty of screenshots so what you see in our book is what you’ll see in your own Google Analytics accounts. Once you’ve set up your custom reports, you’ll save them in the GA4 Explore tab for quick and easy reference when you need them – no extra work required.

The good news is, you have at least a year left of access to your Universal Analytics data. That’s plenty of time to analyse your UA data AND wrap your head around GA4.

This book has been written to be useful for all levels of food bloggers.

If you’re a seasoned blogger, you may know some or most of the Universal Analytics information, but we do go into a few different ways to look at things – such as forecasting income using your data. The GA4 and GA4 Custom Reports sections will be the most useful for you (and take up 2/3 of the book), and we helpfully link between both UA and GA4 so you can familiarise yourself with the new tools.

If you’re a newer blogger, it helps if you have at least 1 month’s worth of data in your Analytics account to play with, but even if you don’t, you can still work through the information and come back to it over and over again as your site grows. You don’t need to be a wizard at reading your Analytics either – but if you do have some previous experience working with your data, you may find it easier to transition to GA4.

Yes, this eBook will be updated over time and you will have lifetime access to all future updates. When a new version is released, you will receive an email with a link to download it.

As this is a digital product, all sales are final and no refunds will be issued. We thank you in advance for your understanding.
