What is Hoisin Peanut Sauce?

Usually served as a side to rice paper rolls, this tasty dipping sauce has Vietnamese and Chinese origins and is the combination of the two main ingredients – hoisin sauce and peanut butter. Blend in a little sesame oil and garlic with some heat and you’ve got yourself one very tasty dipping sauce.

How to Make Peanut Hoisin Sauce

Add the hoisin, peanut butter, sesame oil and garlic into a small saucepan and gently simmer on the stove.

  • If you’re allergic to peanuts or completely peanut intolerant, you can substitute with tahini or sunflower seed butter which should give similar results. Alternatively, you could also other peanut alternatives.
  • Don’t have hoisin? Swap for 2tbsp oyster sauce instead. You may also like to add a little bit of honey or sugar and 1 tbsp of peanut butter to balance out the flavour.
  • Add in some freshly chopped chilli and set all those yummy flavours on fire!

    I love recipes that are big on flavor and small on ingredients. I can see using this on so many things…maybe cold soba noodles with this as the dressing.

    Hoisin and peanut dipping sauce is my fave with fresh spring rolls. I have a slightly different version, but loving yours with the addition of garlic, yum!
